 Country music is taking on another shape as many new artists shift their careers in this direction. Young stars from American Idol and Dancing with the Stars have changed their tune to country. Julianne Hough is one particular new singer who stands out. She has spent her entire life dancing and now her complete focus is on her music. This seems to be a popular trend as country music expands, offering more variety to the world.
 Carrie Underwood
Carrie Underwood is the quintessential all-American girl who stunned the world with her raving beauty and incredible voice on American Idol. She has already sold over 10 million albums with her first two records, Some Hearts and Carnival Ride. Carrie wanted her albums to be unique by choosing thought-provoking songs that brought back memories of home. She also wanted to make an impression by grasping life experiences that are not always easy to talk about through her music. Before becoming a music sensation, Underwood was a simple, shy Oklahoma college girl. She is known by many people as a sweet-natured person with a heart of gold. Darius Rucker
Darius Rucker is a newcomer to the country music scene and he is taking the world by storm. His first country music album has already hit number one on the Billboard charts. Shortly after the release of his first album, he had even more success when his debut single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” stayed at the top for several weeks, making him the first African American to top the country singles charts since Charley Pride in 1983. However, Rucker hasn’t allowed fame to overtake him. He is still a down-to-earth guy with a caring spirit. Rucker is also a songwriter, who co-writes his own music. His first country album, Learn to Live, paints a picture of real life circumstances. His crystal clear voice is truly amazing to listen to. Rucker may only have one album to date, but his fans are excited to see what he will come up with next.
Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson is well-known for her amazing voice and acting ability. She has had an exciting career in the pop music world, and she was the star of the hit MTV show Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. We all love Simpson for her sweet smile and irresistible charm. She cares about the world and she is not afraid to be herself. Her music clearly defines who she is and where her heart is. Simpson is now moving her career in a new direction with country singing. Simpson is originally from Texas and she has always loved country music. She released her first country album last year, which featured the popular single “Come on Over.” Her earlier focus was on pop music. Some of her first albums are Sweet Kisses, Irresistible, and In This Skin.

Julianne Hough stunned audiences in her role on Dancing with the Stars. It was amazing to see this small-framed 19 year old gracing the dance floor with her breathtaking moves. She has won numerous world dance awards since her early teens. She captivated the world with her dancing ability, always keeping us on our toes. Now Hough has shifted gears towards her love of country music. Her debut album, self-titled Julianne Hough, was released on May 20, 2008. She also launched a holiday album called Sounds of the Season: The Julianne Hough Holiday Collection. She plans to continue working on more projects in the upcoming years.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift is a Goldilocks beauty with a voice that could launch a thousand ships. She is a country-pop star as well as a songwriter. She released her debut single, “Tim McGraw,” in 2006. Shortly thereafter, she produced five hit singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2008, Swift released an album called Fearless, which sold nearly two million albums. She was also noticed because she was the only female artist in country music history to be at the top of the billboard charts for eight weeks straight.
Kellie Pickler
Kellie Pickler first made herself known in 2005 on the 5th season of American Idol. She sang her way to be in the top six final Idols and her talent was immediately recognized in the form of a record deal offering. At the young age of 20, she was recording her first album in Nashville. Her debut, entitled Small Town Girl, was released in October of 2006. She has had many hit singles, such as “Red High Heels” and “I Wonder.” Pickler is a family-centered young woman who takes relationships very seriously. Her love for music is demonstrated in her songs, wherein her goal is to achieve raw emotion. Kellie’s latest album was released in mid-2008 and featured the singles “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” and “Best Days of Your Life.” Each one of these amazing newcomers has placed their own unique stamp on country music. ¶
