Betty White is still “White Hot” according to the previews for the new show Hot in Cleveland and she doesn’t show signs of stopping. White plays Elka the house caretaker in TV Land’s first original scripted comedy. The show is about three L.A. women played by Jane Leeves, Valerie Bertinelli and Wendie Malick whose plane unexpectedly lands in Cleveland on their way to Paris. The women live in the same house with the sassy Elka who is the caretaker of the property they have rented. There are ten episodes in the first season so far.
Hot in Cleveland is not the only reason White is still hot, she now holds the record for oldest person to host Saturday Night Live. Before White, Miskel Spillman, winner of SNL’s “Anybody Can Host” contest held the record at 80 years old when she hosted in 1977. White, 88, hosted SNL on May 8th, 2010.
After nearly 60 years of acting, White has clearly made a name for herself. Her most famous role was in the television show, The Golden Girls where she played the character of the lovable and naïve Rose Nylund. The show ran from 1985 to 1992 when co-star, Beatrice Arthur left. White was the oldest of all the Golden Girls cast members and is also the only surviving one since the death of Rue McClanahan in June 2010, Bea Arthur in April 2009, and Estelle Getty in July 2008
After Golden Girls ended, White received many guest appearances on other televisions shows. She appeared most notably in, Ally McBeal, That ‘70s Show, Everwood, Joey and Malcolm in the Middle. She also had a recurring role on Boston Legal from 2005 to 2008.
White says she prefers working on television shows saying, “I love television because you do it, go home, and move on. With film you go over it so many times, you beat the whole joke to death.” She has also appeared in several films like Lake Placid (1999), Tom Sawyer (2000), Bringing Down the House (2003), and The Proposal (2009). White also co-stars with Kristen Bell in the upcoming movie, You Again, set to be released on September 24th, 2010.
