Healing, Wholeness, and Hope Update
Wauwatosa (March 01, 2010) - Six weeks after the earthquake, The Salvation Army continues to serve thousands of disaster survivors on-the-ground in Port Au Prince and elsewhere. The Salvation Army is working closely with multiple corporate partners and non-governmental organizations to provide food, water, medicine, shelter, and other immediate aid. While still meeting immediate needs, the service is being to move from emergency to sustainable recovery efforts. These solutions include: repair/re-establish local water sources; provide water filtration capacity; provide assistance to local population to rebuild permanent, more earthquake resistant housing; and develop strategic plans for long term Salvation Army Program and Facility Reconstruction.
Relief ministries include the following:
· The stadium generator at the Army’s 20,000 person camp in Port-au-Prince has been repaired. This repair will mean that the lights will be operational during key times of the evening, enhancing security and living conditions. In addition, a security team, equipped with flashlights and high visibility vests, conducts day and night patrols.
· Medical personnel have served 18,504 individuals.

Local Salvation Army Forces Mobilized Immediately
Wauwatosa, WI (March 01, 2010) - Following a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile during the early hours of Saturday morning (27 February), Salvation Army Emergency Services were immediately mobilized to provide support and comfort. International financial assistance is already on the way. The Salvation Army has had a presence in Chile since 1909 and today offers social services including hospitals, schools for impoverished children and adult rehabilitation.
The immediate response is to provide food, water, first aid kits, emergency packets, blankets, candles and other urgently required supplies. A recently arrived mobile canteen (a donation From The Salvation Army in the United States) is one of the key relief vehicles.
The earthquake epicenter was approximately 90 miles northwest of the city of Concepción in Southern Chile. This is approximately 350 miles from the capital of Santiago. Nevertheless, according to officials on the ground, the quake was of a 7.0 magnitude in the Santiago metropolitan region. People have flocked to the streets as numerous aftershocks continue to pummel the country, severely affecting older buildings in the more historical areas of the larger cities.

FALLING SHORT OF CHRISTMAS GOAL WILL BE CRITICAL TO PROVIDING EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO THOSE MOST IN NEED
Wauwatosa, WI (February 26, 2010)- The Salvation Army of Greater Milwaukee announced today the organization’s 2009 Christmas Campaign raised $2.6 million, $400,000 short from the $3.0 million goal.
Major Jesse G. Collins, Salvation Army Milwaukee County Commander said, “Meeting the Christmas goal was critical to helping families through the economic crisis and although Christmas is over donations may continue to be made to help us help families in Milwaukee who are still in great need. We are thankful to all of the caring people in this community who gave so selflessly in these trying times at Christmas. The requests for assistance currently far outweigh our available resources. We will have to make tough decisions about critical programs and services we provide to those most in need. Our mission is not to turn families away. We are committed to providing assistance to as many families and individuals throughout Milwaukee as we can. This can only happen with on going support of donations. We are hopeful those that can give will do so in the coming days, weeks and months, as we continue to meet the daily emergency requests of the hungry, the homeless and the troubled throughout the year.”
